A MAZE. / Berlin brings together international independent game developers, digital creatives and game enthusiast in Berlin. A MAZE. / Berlin is also a public festival with an mind-blowing music lineup, an hand selected exhibition of videogames, virtual reality experiences and interactive installations.

Since 2012 A MAZE. awards The Most Amazing Game. The winner is selected by an interdisciplinary, international and 100% independent jury. 2014 A MAZE. extended the award to three categories and the audience award. 2015 we’ve introduced our fourth category the "Other Dimensions Award” which is dedicated to play in virtual reality. The trophy consists out of three independent elements: a pink silicone cube, a metal ball and a concrete socket. Thorsten S. Wiedemann, the artistic director of A MAZE. explains: "The pink silicon stands for interactivity and playfulness, the concrete socket for culture and meaning, and the embedded metal ball for connectivity and completeness."
The categories are: “Most Amazing Game Award”, “Human Human Machine Award”, “WTF?! Award”, “Other Dimensions Award (VR)” and the “Audience Award”.

Interaction is not only about presentation but also about sharing, learning, and exchanging: Invited artists will teach best practices in technology and creativity for artistic and media practices. Focusing on the convergence of digital art, experimentations and games, the talks and workshops provide the artists and developers the opportunity to present projects, artists philosophies as well as discuss and reflect upon them with audience members. A MAZE. Exhibition
Artistic and experimental games are often off the mainstream and allow for different experiences with forward-thinking and playful views, often not for entertainment only. Technology is used as playground for artistic expression and innovative interaction with audiences interested in critical reflection and meaningful interaction. Discover virtual reality experiences, local multiplayer games, interactive installations and many more of this versatile art-form.

A MAZE. International Co-/ Production Village
Already started in 2015 with small huts, 2016 A MAZE. will stage a village where different countries are able to display a small selection of the very best of independent games and alternative games of their country. It will be a world showcase, an international market with the intention of enable co-productions throughout with the support of public funds. National and international funding institutions, but also game labels, distribution platforms and publishers are invited to play and meet the developers of upcoming unique and experimental projects.

A MAZE. / Berlin is dedicated to providing a harassment-free social experience for everyone, regardless of gender, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, age, religion or game preferences. We do not tolerate harassment of participants in any form. Anyone violating these rules will be expelled from the festival at the discretion of the organisers.
Harassment includes verbal comments that reinforce social structures of domination related to gender, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, age, religion, sexual images in public spaces, deliberate intimidation, stalking, following, harassing photography or recording, sustained disruption of talks or games, inappropriate physical contact, and unwelcome sexual attention. Participants asked to stop any harassing behaviour are expected to comply immediately.
If a participant engages in harassing behaviour, the organisers may take any action they deem appropriate, including warning the offender or expulsion from the festival with no refund. If you are being harassed, notice that someone else is being harassed, or have any other concerns, please contact a member of festival staff immediately.
The festival staff will be happy to help participants contact security or police, provide escorts, or otherwise assist those experiencing harassment to feel safe for the duration of the event. We value your attendance.
We expect participants to follow these rules at all our venues and social events.
